GrimCake began as a folder on someone's desktop, a place to keep screenshots of mourning brooches, wallpaper samples, black wool coats, and the occasional gothic novel worth re-reading. It became a publication because that folder kept growing, and because most of the writing about this world is either costume-shop cheerful or grimly serious. We wanted something in between: candlelit, careful, and a little bit in love.

We publish curated buying guides, essays, and interviews about Victorian and romantic gothic fashion, jewelry, home décor, and lifestyle. We don't sell anything ourselves. Every recommendation points outward, to independent makers, antique dealers, small shops, and occasionally to a larger brand that has genuinely earned its place here.

What we believe

Restraint is the whole aesthetic. A single locket, one dark wall, one candle, one dress you keep for twenty years. We are suspicious of spectacle and allergic to Halloween-store shortcuts. The romantic gothic tradition is older, quieter, and more generous than the internet usually gives it credit for.
